Introductions
Hi guys, I’m with Zafir at the Milwaukee media event and this time we’re discussing the M18 Forge Battery. Zafir, Don’t you think you should start with an overview of the battery first?
Discussion on the Features of Red Lithium Forge Battery
Yes of course. So with Red pricking lithium forge its all coal about delivering the most watts fastest shortest to deliver user on the go the longest life the and for makes red lithium users on the job site.
I want our customers on the job site to know, we want you guys, if you’re out there, if you see the badge 4 gauge, be at ease because this is the best sort of …. con about guns the best or which all what’s the gamma options, he had the turbo charge, which is mandatory, plus a tremendous sort of trifle lithium over, it was one more lithon topics doloar on the one more or the lift first family rectangular reinforcement blocks. So I am getting out there red pigmented forge lithium then oxen retrievable vitamin amps hence on equation.
Performance and Pricing Your Essay Head Here This battery comes in such a small form factor, has the ability to recharge quickly and with the longest cycle life that the company is out to get the 12V power in such a battery.
So what is the charge on 6O? 6O is $199. And then you are also coming out with a 12Ah battery? Yes, this is expected to reach its destination by mid-2024. 2024, right. Yeah, so it’s coming. The strongest M18 battery. That would be quite impressive. Yes, it would be huge. And when do we start seeing some higher output tools with these batteries like maybe an STF drill or something like that? Yes, of course.
So in fact, a great example of that is our next generation half inch impact wrench with high torque technology which is very much so going to get a cut version of the launch Forge XC6. When you combine it with a forge, it will give it a faster application speed, a higher torque of 1600 foot-pounds torque.
Charger Technology
This is not the only story though since the type of charger is what makes this battery’s sweet spot. Can we stand up and have a quick view at the diagram of the charger? Yes, let’s do that. So what we have on supercharging its very much the same story. There is our standard charger, our fast charger, and then our supercharging technology as well. So here we have the M18 Dual Bay Supercharger.
It will feature two bays. This is going to be our most powerful M18 charger ever manufactured. And the plus point of this charger with this pack is that you will get 15 minutes of supercharge at 80 percent. I am assuming from this bump there is a big fan or a couple of fans or something? Yeah, so we actually have our fans pulling air into both bays under the charger.
Features and Compatibility You have heard of ev and have possibly seen it in action. We have ChargeAdapt technology and this allows us to distribute power more efficiently across the two phases. So this charger will benefit all red lithium batteries and not just the port. Red Lithium will charge twice as rapidly as what is gotten from a standard charger. The high output will charge as much as four times what a standard charger can provide.
Can I use any of my existing batteries with this new charger? Yes absolutely. And the beautiful thing about it is that it’s all backwards compatible, right? Three prong adapters are unchanged from the classic 18 volt platform. It is better, more powerful battery. Great Are we expecting any change including price of the charger? Yes. Any charger is also supposed to be available in September including the Forge XC60.
Battery Testing
In the meantime, I understand the charger will be $249. Thank you gentlemen, do we have this kit matching some of the more in demands tools as well? Yes, that’s something we’re definitely looking in to. Anywhere we can fit the 6.0 with the Charger, we’ll see. But right now, there are no plans for this.
At present, it is more of an add-on. Yes, the device will be in a bundle with Forge 6.0 this year. So basically you can sell the battery as a kit with the charger I guess, right? Absolutely. We want to be able to combine the two technologies together. And very cool definitely use the charger with our existing battery.
Yes. Hey thank you, appreciate it. Ok guys quick power test with the new Ford battery, I am going to run it first with 12 ah, just a regular M18 red lithium battery.
Battery Comparison Test I am going to do three pieces of half inch OSP first I do the 12 amp hour, and then the forge with the 6 amp hour, ok get the whole battery, full battery, right? So here we go, all right, full battery, ha ha ha. And woooow wow wow. Wow, they are so adorable. Yes, quite powerful.
Yeah which is 12 volts, with that size you get 30% times smaller, 40% times lighter than these. So the cells can work with these two batteries, same cell size but 30% smaller, 40% lighter, but still delivering the same amount of power so would you say they are equal in power, yes thank you, no but rather, not half the size, rather a straightforward yes, a much smaller profile, equal in power and much smaller and much lighter.
So when this battery comes out I forget what you said the price was, 460 for what? I said 199 for which battery fifty for now right, what about converse prices? Future Applications Now what kind of imaginative prices do they have for 12L, $249? Yes, I have a smaller battery for a smaller amount of money but with the same amount of power and the price for the battery is relative to the standard which is 199 dollars so yes, absolutely, perhaps that makes a lot of sense.
Mentioned here are tools from other generations as well, and one example is the fuel half-inch high-torque impact wrench that is supposed to be quite powerful for its size and has an overall quick working speed along with the other development- the forged technology and our 5.0 battery.
Exciting stuff. Alright, everyone, today we will conduct a brief analysis. Explain why and how with us. Yes, we are going to be using two of our next generation M18 Fuel set of impact wrenches that we have used for some time.
The brushless motor drive mechanism provides high speedy application. If I understand the description properly, the XC5 kit will contain a resistive battery while I expect a fake 6.0 battery kit to be offered as well as for the kit.
Future Applications
$249 for 12L. Lower price for better power! Definitely! Maybe that makes a lot of sense. They are not only is it an edge over the present, generation, tools, but also many of the newer generation tools, which you see, are in the pipeline such as the fueling half inch high torque impact wrench, which has more power, faster application speed when you forge and our 5. How would you characterize this technique with the use of 5.0 Say the battery. Very cool.
Alright, folks, we are going to do a short comparison. Let us know how we are going to do that. Yes, so we have both of our next generation M18 Fuel half inch higher torque impact wrenches. To include a fake 6.0 battery, there will be a kit available that has an XC5 or resistive battery with the kit.
Enhanced Tool Interoperability So, providing it with the forged 6.0 will enable more torque, i.e. 1,600 foot-pounds of torque and quicker application speeds. Tell me, what do you have for battery for this thing? Yes, quite rapidly. We are at three times. You are also positioned in two bars. Ok fine. Okay, so yeah, we’ll just go one, two, three, foot and see how it goes, ok? right. So we’ll still keep moving.
Alright, one, two, three, go. right. A bit faster. Yes. So then, what is master application speed and torque of about 1,600 foot pounds, when you combine it with a forge? When combined with a forge, it is indeed a terrific appeal. And it’s going to come with a tool now, right? So yes, there will be a kit with it. We shall also be cutting with the XC50 resistance.
Battery Specifications for the Tool
For you to be estimated, yes. Yes, there are good chances that price difference is there. Price difference. Great question asked, yes. Great. Hi, thanks for presenting this example. Models are important to consider as well. They are quite high in this case. One question we were wondering was, does the tool even know that it’s got the Forge battery on, is there any difference? The answer is yes, great question.
With the RedLink technology that we’ve developed for both the tool and this battery, the tool actually knows whether it is red lithium, high output red lithium forge, and it is going to adjust your power accordingly. What that means is more RPMs on tools like drills; more power for current on tools like the Cirxo when cutting through OSB, or here, enable it to give out more power – more torque at faster speeds with application speeds such as torque on tools.
Strong Construction So it has the capacity to detect and modify its strength. That is quite intriguing. So they indeed speak to each other and it obtains information from the battery. Yes. It’s really fascinating, really. Very cool. Very good technology. One is ten thousand. No one explains I do not understand what chakras are for. And the story is in fact rather much than life of cycle.
Because cycle life which is the number of times the pack has been placed on the charger and removed and the tool has been switched on and off. But the energy consumption and loss over time more push the battery also cycle life. Yes, it does. Even if you plug it in for like a minute, wait. Its life span is the number of these it can take. We also know however that in the job site because it’s a pretty rough environment he’s working in its very crucial for him to be able to put up with.
Protection and Durability
So if that is the case, it is imperative that the cell is secure. To protect the electrical units. And so we actually have a stronger pack construction. So things like full enclosure of the cell carrier. Things like we do new processes in manufacturing where we use laser to weld the tabs. And what that means is better resonance absorption, better heat dissipation. We have aluminum. I mean especially on such effects.
Yes, vibration on a device like this. A great example. A tool like this, a tool like a rotary hammer. Yes, the rotary hammer. So yes, we actually have an aluminum board on this pack. So the reason we wanted a dual board and an aluminum board is because aluminum actually assists in cooling the cells. The effect is that combined with the Ford 6-0, tools have better heat management properties.
Resistant housing
We got ourselves a resistant housing. Just like the MX fuel, it is oil, grease, and solvent resistant, which makes it stronger. And last but certainly not least, when you have range installed pack construction, better resistance, we have also the same patented ingress coating, there is so much talk about the MX fuel, making it ready to be used in wet, dirty, dusty or even dusty conditions. So when you think of all these benefits eventually, the cell will be protected, the electronics will be protected, and in essence, what this means is you’re going to achieve a better cycle life.
Battery cell technology
This is the battery? This is a cell. One of the batteries? Yes, this is one of the five cells that are housed in the pack, and it is pouch cell technology. So the Red Lithium Forge is distinctly both a pouch cell and, as you witness in the MX Fuel and will be available later on in 2024, also a table bell cylinder cell is part of the Forge that’s coming next year.
Cell phone batteries comparison
Sounds familiar? Yes, more like a cell phone battery. Yes, similar styles, similar technologies. And here it is. One of them comes, right? Yeah, yeah. Right inside the pack. So there are a few of them in this pack. Five of them, you said? Five of them. One, two, three, four and there is one below. And they do slide to the right. This is very, very good. I’m not sure if it’s the right way or not. There you go. fearsome.
Chemical Resistance
And I see you have some chemicals and stuff here. what’s that? Yes, it’s like this, when you are in transportation maintenance, you are in an industrial setting. Dealing with a lot of tools and sprays, WD-40, carb cleaner and many such sprays, all these are used. . And many times people will actually use some of these cleaners and clean the housing or battery with chemicals to remove grease and oil, and this possibly can cause some damage over time, even to those natural plastics.
The degradation occurs over time, but not until a very certain threshold. What you see is it didn’t break the pack itself, but now in the vibration, now when you drop the pack, it breaks more. It’s going to break. This implies that having a resistant housing means that you are relatively more resistant to oil, grease and solvents that plastic would not be very effective in handling. Such properties will allow you to have packs that are resistant to degreasers, solvent cleaners, car cleaner, and glass cleaner, and in the process have great flexibility and long life.
Evaluating Durability
You might find it intriguing that you’re placing them in the freezer, in the oven, or in the heat or the sun, or perhaps putting it into a tumbler. Yes, we do a lot of tumble testing, drop testing, all kinds of random impact vibration. And that is where you start achieving that look and design, no? Yes, of course. So, some more of the design is like that which protects the core, I mean, everything really comes back to how it’s going to perform, but not at the expense for durability.
IP Rating and Internal Testing Now, are these still rated, these batteries? Do you have a rating on them? In terms of what kind of IP rating? Yes, There is no IP rating on M18 or MX fuel anymore. Efforts are underway. One of the things I would say is that the testing that we do internally actually goes above and beyond the IP rating.
Well, that’s smart, I guess. Yes, and we believe that the pack construction that we have, the coating that we have, from an IP standpoint, We have a battery which is able to resist and repel dirt, dust, debris, water etc. Is going to happen, when exposed to these environments.
Cycle Life and Cooling
If you evade our question, it’s like you have a cycle life here. So, as we spoke about the earlier, we were talking about the new chargers that have fans. Yes. When you begin to cool down these batteries before you charge them, that too will improve the cycle life. Yes, of course. On all batteries.
Yes, on all batteries. Why is this so? Because whenever you cool the pack, you get the cells and the electronics to be cool. This will improve the lifespan of the pack. And it’s not just Ford. This M18, M18 fuel, any battery, my old batteries, they will benefit from this charger.
Yes, so there is going to be airflow. Yes, the MX Fuel Red Lithium Forge, the pack actually has vents built into it so you get more cooling capability but the Red Lithium, the high output, all the air is still going to flow around the pack, and It still is. It still is. Cooling will benefit it will still help cool the pack.
Future Developments
This is a supporting aspect to the future where you will see the relative induced M18 forged batteries like the 12-0 in future where we will have advantages that combining that to a dual-base supercharger will grant.
As well, there also has to be some other means employed for heat removal from the cells, and it makes requisit for another component, heat sinks. I believe there are or that, yes, or just internals or, uh, well, heat sinks. No, probably an Aluminum plate. Yeah, that basically settles the aluminum plate itself to act as a heatsink.
Yes, being a good conductor of heat, aluminum pulls that heat out of the cells. There cells are all held very tight there. And then the aluminum board lets one slide the very top of the pack in and out. Very cool.
Development of Cordless Technologies
I would also like to note, however, a really really interesting technology and a great step forward from Milwaukee making more power, longer runtime, better life cycle on these batteries, for example. And I do reckon that as we begin to be more and more accustomed to using cordless tools, we are fast cutting the cords. I mean, where are the cords and petrol these days? You are all moving forward.
Absolutely. Yeah, what one needs these types of batteries for these types of transfers and to be able to perform the types of applications without cords and with runtimes that are required. So well done to you guys. Quite impressive really. What a generous man to take the time to help us understand this. Yes, a warm thank you Rob.
