What is the mysterious white taste of airheads? Let’s find out in today’s post-mortem and history of airhead extremes.
History of Airheads
Released on August 7, 1985 by Van Mille Inc., they are light, chewy, fruity flavored toffees. While issued in Erlinger, Kentucky, they are actually the American arm of Van Meel, the Dutch company that made Mentos. Which is not a Dutch word, so I still don’t know what it means.
Origin of the Name
The name Airheads comes from the popular phrase used to describe someone who did something stupid in the 80s, and who didn’t.
Original Flavor
Originally, the only flavor was red, which was a hit with people with synesthesia, but today, they are available in more than 15 flavors, including Mystery White, which came out in 1993.
The Mystery White Flavor
The mystery flavor is actually just a combination of the flavors they left at the factory that day, so every time you have it, it will taste different. Like today, this Monday’s Meatloaf is delicious.
Review
My review? I’m not a big toffee person, but this is one of the few I can tolerate because of the firm texture. Most of the flavors are pretty muted, but the mystery flavor idea is great, so overall I rate the earheads at 1.5 out of 5.
