Must-Have or Meh Arizona State Dunks Review Style vs. ‍♂️ General Release
Arizona State Dunks review: Are these bold, new colorway kicks a must-have for sneakerheads or just another overhyped general release? Find out in our detailed breakdown of style, comfort, and price.

Introduction

What’s up my name is Muhammad Qasim and today we are going to review the Nike Dunk Low Retro in the ASU colorway.

Background and Overview

So ASU stands for Arizona State University. Fun fact, I actually applied there. I was going to school there. But even so, Arizona State University has two very bold colors, which are primarily university gold and dark maroon. But for some reason on the box label, it just says University Gold as the color. It doesn’t say dark maroon or even white for the midsole. These shoes came back in late November and I was able to compete with them. They came out in early December and retailed for $110, and they were just a general release from Nike Direct, and they were pretty easy to get.

Packaging and First Impressions

They weren’t on the shoe, they were on Nike.com, so I’m very grateful to be able to compete with them. As for the box and packaging, it comes in the standard Nike red box, with just Nike on the top, and on the sides, as well as the back. And once we open the box, it comes with a traditional tissue paper, no design or anything, just a normal shoe release. The shoe also doesn’t come with any extra laces, it just comes with the dark maroon laces that are already on the shoe. And the box label says Nike Dunk Low Retro, and for some reason, like I said before, the color is university gold, but the shoes also have dark maroon and white, but the box label is pretty vague.

Shoe Details and Design

On to the shoes themselves, we have an all-leather upper in these two colors, be it the University Gold or the Deep Maroon ASU. I don’t know their slogan. It also features a white midsole. And the varsity gold is continued on the outsole where we have the Nike logo right in the center and it’s rubber all over the place. The dark maroon laces are flat, which is a nice touch. It’s not like a Nike SB lace where they’re a little more chunky and rounded. They’re just square and a bit more flat, which is typical on regular release stings. The tongue is tunneled by the laces, so it’s in the dark maroon we see, which is nylon. And the label has Nike in just that same dark maroon, but a pop of varsity gold.

Back Tab and Insole

And if we go to the back tab, it’s the opposite, where it just has university gold and then dark maroon. But the dark maroon for the Nike logo is actually embroidered and stitched and really pops against the two colors. It’s the same color of the insole, basically, where it just says Nike. There is the printing and the gold lining of the university.

Sizing and Fit

As for the sizing and fit of these shoes, I would say they fit a half size smaller. So I got these in a size 10, which is my actual size, but they fit me a little smaller than usual. So if I were to buy them again I’d probably get them for a 10 and a half or maybe an 11, but that might be a bit too big.

Styling and Outfit Ideas

I wore them with a pair of dark brown pants. I think they look really dope. The pants and shoes have a lot of earth tones, which I think is great for fall and winter, but you can wear it in any season like spring or summer. I think these shoes would look really dope with shorts if you wear them with like a white sock. This will really make the colors pop and make the shoes the star of the outfit. And you can wear it with a great fit. You can also wear it with many different colors, be it black pants or brown pants or different colored shorts. Because it’s such a vibrant contrast of colors with the varsity and deep maroon where the shoe is just going to pop regardless of what you’re wearing and people will probably look down first before looking at your entire outfit.

Pros

Now to the pros. I’m going to say that my first pro is that this shoe is really, really stylish. Anyone wearing sneakers today was probably introduced to them by the Panda Dunk. But in this case, it’s not the same meme colorway. It’s a more unique and vibrant color, which I think is really dope. It’s a classic silhouette, super stylish, easy to wear. And like I said before, this is my second pro. It’s not as memetic as you’d find a regular panda dunk. Whenever people say that, I think people should just wear what they like, memes aside. But that’s just my mindset. And my final pro is that this shoe is really, really easy.

Whether it’s on the resale market. It’s not too expensive compared to the retail price of $110. You’re probably going to pay a bit more, including shipping, taxes, and just resale fees. But even so, the shoe is super easy to get hold of, not much on the resale market at retail, and comes in a lot of different colors, whether you like this very unique colorway or a simple color like the panda. Way, but still a dope shoe in its own right. So those are my three professions. The shoe is super stylish, a classic silhouette, and easy to wear. Another pro is that it’s not as memorable as some other shoes you might see. And third, it’s really easy to compete, a little expensive, but not too much in the resale market.

Cons

And I had some cons. My first point is that this is a general release. So a lot of people will be sad that it’s not as cool as some other stings, but personally, I just hold back my preference. And I advise anyone who polices them to only cop if they like the colorway. But if you like the more common panda colorway, black and white, by all means, just copy that too. You just have to, like I said before, wear what you want to wear and wear it with confidence. But this is only my first kind. As some people might be like, oh, it’s just a normal release and they just want to wear like the hype stuff. But personally, I think you should wear what you like.

So who is my con type there? Well, nothing wrong really, more so for some people who only care like the hype stuff and it’s a normal release. It doesn’t have the inherent cool factor that the Travis Scott Collebo Dunk has or like the Off White Dunk, but I think it’s still a classic solid silhouette and a great shoe. Oh no, I was putting it here like I was a shoemaker. And my second loss is more because I’m a boomer because this shoe retails for $110, which is more than in previous years. So that’s a higher retail price.

This is my second mine, $110. Some dunk SBs were as low as $70 back in the day. I know some of these stings were under $100 a day. And even Air Force One, the dunk alone isn’t driving up the prices of these shoes at Nike, but it could be a detriment to some. But thankfully in my profession, like I said before, you can copy it on the resale market and it’s not too expensive, but pretty standard value for Nike Dunks these days. So not too surprised, but for some, it might be out of their budget since it’s over $110.

Conclusion

Overall, I’m going to say that the Nike Dunklo Retro is a classic iteration of one of the most popular shoes in the world. What do you guys think about these shoes? Leave a comment below.
