Introduction
This is Shui Glamister. And when I say favorite, I mean between the team, especially me and Will, because when we go out for photography, we wear a Shoei Glamster, we wear it on those shoots. Take it with you and you can see it from the product image. We have a website for good reason. One, it’s extremely practical, it’s very comfortable and it looks great in photos, let’s be honest. But it’s also very popular with you guys because it’s one of our best sellers and has a lot of reviews on our website and they’re overwhelmingly positive. Now it is the new 2023 version that is moving forward and the big update is that it has now passed the ECE 2206 safety standards.
Design and Safety
If you look around the helmet you’ll notice that not much has changed and that’s a good thing since they nailed it right out of the gate the first time. What they have done is make it a little bit safer to pass these new strict safety standards. Usually what you’ll find with helmets that pass ECE 2206 is a bit thicker, which it is, but honestly it’s partial, and they’re a bit heavier, which it is, it’s going out. About 100 grams heavier than the version. What you will often find with the development of helmets over the years is that the price also increases somewhat. It is slightly more expensive, with a difference of around £40 between them. It’s now either £449.99 for twenty colourways, and these are the same colorways you’ll find in the previous generation. They are either gray, black, blue, or white. Or if you want one of their more complicated designs, which they call the Bivouac, they’re £539.99.
Size Comparison
It’s probably a good idea, since I mentioned the previous version, to show you an example between the two in terms of the size difference. And honestly, it’s very partial between these two helmets. If you look really hard at them side by side, you can tell it’s a bit bigger. But what this ultimately means is that there’s more helmet between your head and the road if you have to take off. And increased security is never a bad thing. Ultimately though, it’s still a great little helmet.
Shell Composition and Sizing
It has a slimmer profile, even with a slightly larger shell. They use the same shell construction, so it’s their five-layer AIM shell, which is a mix of composite and organic fibers and they offer it in three different shell sizes to keep that slim look. I also got help. The other thing to say and normally I’d leave the size for last but I’ll address now that they obviously do the same size. Shoei is very consistent when it comes to their sizes and they are one of the most versatile fits we have on our team. The accessories also remain the same so if for example you have a Shui Glamster and you’re looking to get yourself a new one, the visors will fit in both helmets. Same with internals, cheek pieces and liners.
Practical Features
Now one of the first things that impressed us with the Glamster is actually the fact that they’ve done a lot of practicality but hid it in a clean looking helmet. So you’ve got a lot of ways across it. Let’s actually start there. So you have these vents on your forehead that you can open or close and you have an exhaust vent around your neck so it looks over the top of your head. You also have holes in your chin. Now, they are not close, but they are at least on the sides of the helmet. It’s not directly in your face. The visor is a very good quality for this. Also with the mechanism to open and close it. It locks into place easily. You can change the visor. You need a screwdriver to do this, but it’s a very easy helmet visor to replace. Obviously, we have the tinted version on it. You can get a pin lock for any visor but this one comes with a pin lock in the box for the clear visor that you get as standard and obviously that’s good because it prevents the visor from being misplaced.
Comfort and Safety Features
It is really comfortable interior. That fully removable liner is so comfortable against your face. You also have emergency pull tabs for emergency services. If you have an accident, they can remove your helmet very easily without disturbing your head too much. It also comes with a removable chin screen if you want to put it there to reduce wind noise or you can leave it off to increase airflow of course and your neck in it. There is a double-D ring closure system around. I personally can’t think of any additional features I’d like to see on it. It lacks nothing and obviously looks fantastic. The only thing you have is the Shoei brand on your forehead. You don’t really have anything else on the sides or reverse. It’s a really neat look.
